I love this app and I don’t even have kids at an allowance-earning age! I’ve spent a little time playing around with it and it’s a must-have for parents. My favorite feature is the ability to set up parental controls so that your kids can keep track of their allowance and chores on their own device, but not have the ability to make changes. I also love that “accounts” with interest can be set up.

iAllowance is available for $3.99. Screenshots and video after the break.

miCal – missing Calendar, by entwicklungsschmiede UG & Co KG, has been updated with optimized loading times and user defined repetition of appointments.

The app captures new appointments directly and is easily synchronized with existing calendars like Outlook, Google, Exchange or Facebook Events. The origin of various appointments can be traced at any time via color-coding. MiCal stores a suitable title for each event, a detailed description, a from-to-time and a possible repetition. Furthermore, an alarm may be set to alert the user through a beeper or via e-mail.

The well-structured day-, week-, month- and year-views help you to keep an eye on your events.
landscape week view with 5 or 7 visible days as a choosable option.
Innovative functions like a customizable default time and default titles enable you to create new events faster.
Moreover, invite other attendees quickly and easily to an event via mail. Now with iCal format.

Update includes:

Optimized loading time: The new version of miCal can be started noticeable faster from the background than its predecessor.
User-defined repetition of appointments: The user may now specify even more precisely in which intervals appointments should be automatically resubmitted.
Determine starting day of the week: By using the miCal-settings a specific day of the week may be selected to start someones individual week on the calendar.
Set language preference: The language used to start the app may also be selected in the miCal settings.

I really like miCal. It’s different and packed full of features. The danger with jamming an app full of features is clutter, but the developers have done a great job with miCal and the organization of the UI works and looks great.

miCal is on sale for $0.99 until Sunday. Screenshots after the break.

Thrutu, by MetaSwitch, is a new app that lets you share location, photos, contacts and more while you’re talking on the phone.

Thrutu brings new fun and function to the phone call. It’s so simple that you’ll wonder why phone calls couldn’t always work this way.

Thrutu comes with five buttons:

Location: see each other’s position on a map, updating live as you move.
Camera: snap and share a photo during a call
Gallery: share a photo that’s already stored on the phone.
Contacts: instantly send contact details
Prod: convey touch in a phone call by making the other phone vibrate!

Thrutu needs simultaneous voice and data to meet operate at its full potential, so if you’re a Verizon customer, you’ll need to be connected to Wifi. However, Thrutu does make it possible to share via SMS for Verizon customers or when the person you’re talking to doesn’t have Thrutu installed.

I haven’t had the chance to play with this, yet, but it looks rather promising. Having quick and easy access to location, camera, photos, and contacts while on a phone call will be very convenient. Sure, I can switch apps to accomplish any of these tasks (except the vibrating), but this is a much better implementation. I hope Apple is taking notes, as I think this a feature that is lacking in iOS.

Thrutu is available for free. Screenshots and video after the break.
